I Worry

I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher — not lower — than -8 but I'm not having it.

As much as I admire your determination Tina, I really do think that you should give in on this (from Manchester Evening News via Good Math, Bad Math).

You might at least disable your maths question so she has the ability to reply...otherwise its only mean.

Of course, this never would have happened if they had used Fahrenheit...

Two consecutive paragraphs from the article:

"More than 15m adults in Britain have poor numeracy - the equivalent of a G or below at GCSE maths

"Almost three times as many UK adults (15.1m) have poor numeracy - the equivalent of a G or below at GCSE maths - than with poor literacy skills, according to the government's Skills for Life survey."

Hmmm... 3 x 15m = 15.1m? Surely just poor editing, but a bad coincidence considering the subject... :-p

John: The way I read it, it's saying that three times as many people have poor numeracy skills (15.1m) as have literacy skills (presumably 5.03m).
