You seriously have some disturbing people in the US. I mean, we have some churches and that stuff to in the EU, but signs like "Thank goo for dead soldiers" to protest against homosexuals is .. well, I'm missing the right words here.

Who cares what sexuality someone has? Why is that supposed to be an issue to someone else? Didn't you have a movement for the rights of gays and lesbian people?

And why do people follow such churches?

I dunno.  I mean, that "church" is definitely full of nutjobs, but I don't think they should be fined.  The father of the marine says he "became depressed" after the group protested at his son's funeral.  It is not illegal to say things to someone and make them depressed.  If that were the case there would be a lot more fines going around.  Anyway, it is pretty hard to prove that the guy is depressed just because of the protesters.  After all, his son was just killed.

Blubb -

This "church" only consists of a crazy pastor and his extended family.  It's not a church in the typical sense.  "Cult" would be a better description.

If you want to be truly depressed, read this article about how it came into being.

This makes it hard for us well-meaning Christians to be understood. Shame on them, that's pitiful.

Louis Theroux stayed with the church for a while, that was a very interesting episode of his show.

James,

Harassment isn't protected by the First Amendment. And the magnitude of the damages isn't just for this single incident, but partly for previous incidents, and partly to deter them in the future.

That church is really just an extended family of disturbed human parasites, so I find it hard to feel sorry for them.
