Wanted: Dropbox

Wanted: a stand-alone, secure, simple file drop-box, that I can run on my external-facing machine and allow people to send me files. Ideally it would have a HTML forms based interface if someone does a GET /, but allow direct WebDAV connections to PUT files. Obviously deleting and so on should not be allowed, and all uploads constrained to a specific directory.

Any suggestions?

I think they had something like this on OS X at one time, but I may be mis-remembering. Either way, probably not the answer you are looking for.

You can check out http://box.net/

I haven't used them, but thought about it before setting up a webdav box here.

You are looking for an "Upload" CGI. Rather simple to code, but, if you are lazy, you can use the GPLd File Upload Script written (in Perl) by Jeff Carnahan.

I have used them a lot, and they provide a great service.

^No that is not spam... it works. I used a throw away yahoo email to test it out and it works perfectly!

Sorry, I forgot about this also:

OpenFiler is a Linux distro tailored to be a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device with a decent webgui. It's based off of CentOS.

I just use an anonymous ftp. VSFTP will do a chown on files after upload, and the dir is +t, so that the files can't be downloaded, and no delete. (I haven't used this in a while though)

Ross, I set up File Upload Script written (in Perl) by Jeff Carnahan, and it Just Works (tm). I would recommend it to you. You simply set up a HTML form for people to send you files, and the CGI do the rest. It is restricted to one directory, you can restrict the file size, and there are some other parameters easy to tweak.
