Devil's Pie Tutorial

Christer Edwards over at Ubuntu Tutorials has written a short tutorial on Devil's Pie. Thanks Christer!

Now if only people would stop using a hack I wrote several years ago and fix the real problems...

What are the real problems you mention here?
(I'm really not trying to imply anything, i just don't know what you mean! :))

A mixture of applications that don't remember their state ("I want my xchat window at this position" is what caused me to write devilspie, but xchat now remembers position), and applications that don't support sessions ("i want firefox on desktop 2").

If people saved the session instead of logging out and starting fresh every day, most of the devilspie users wouldn't need it.  I suspend my laptop so I only login once every few weeks, but gossip remember where I want the chat window, so does xchat, and epiphany/evolution sit on workspace 2 because I never close them in the first place.

Firstly, that's the first time I've actually seen anyone attempt to explain what Devil's Pie actually does ;)

As for the fixing bugs thing, well, xchat now remembers position, and session support for Firefox was checked in about three days ago. So it is happening, just not in any particularly rapid or coordinated manner.

Yeah, I saw Firefox gain session support, it's a wonderful step in the right direction.
