Contacts

We've just open-sourced Contacts, our light addressbook that uses Evolution Data Server as a backend. Although it was designed for handheld devices, its very usable on desktops too. Chris Lord, who wrote it in the summer whilst interning at Opened Hand, has more details and screenshots.

I really like this application!
I have not used, but it looks nice.

Thanks!

Are there plans to eventually merge these changes/fixes/enhancements back into the eds tree? In time for evo 2.6? Or is it more a fork? Also are there plans for a eCal Calendar equivilant too?

All of the generic fixes we've done to EDS are being filed in the bugzilla, so only the DBus port itself is troublesome.  I want to get that in, but it's tricky.

For a small calendar application, we've already released Dates, get it via SVN from http://svn.o-hand.com/repos/dates/

Sweeet! Going to have to compile and play around with them both over the weekend. So the mentioned vcard diffs are possibly going back in too? It it hasn't already been published a look at the speed/whatever (dis)advantages of dbus over bonobo in eds would be cool. Some more cool apps to add to my 770 :-)

How does it compare with gpe-contacts ?

Not sure. I have GPE Contacts on my 770 but haven't had a chance to play with it much. Hope to get a chance to play with them both in the next week or so.

I'd like to think it compares very favourably against gpe-contacts (of course), but it does require eds

Sweet.  I love running handheld apps on a Desktop.  They are usually so fast and light and clearly focussed on a particular task.

Having stuggled with older versions of Microsoft WinCE it is also really nice to be able to test out Palmtop apps without needing to mess around with emulators and jump through various other hoops.  (Xnest + Matchbox can be added in something closer to an emulator with far less work.)
