      In the last week or so I've discovered a couple of GTK+ tricks I didn't
      know, so I thought I'd share them.
    </p>
    <ol>
      <li>
        Control-Backspace in an entry deletes from the cursor to the beginning
        of the text. I had previously hacked up custom binding for Control-u,
        but this is bound by default. Thanks Emmanuele for pointing this
        out. <strong>Update:</strong> as proof that my fingers are still using
        C-u, Control-Backspace actually deletes a word and not the entire entry.
      </li>
      <li>
        Middle-clicking on a scroll bar will move directly to that point,
        instead of moving towards that point by a page. Very useful, I'm glad
        Mitch mentioned this in a bug.
      </li>
    </ol>

      href="https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16769">Firefox 3 should
      have support for ICC profile handling</a> when displaying images. The
      initial patch was to use ColorSync which won't work on Linux, but the
      recent patches by Tim Rowley also use the <tt>_ICC_PROFILE</tt> from my <a
      href="http://burtonini.com/blog/computers/xicc">ICC Profiles In X</a>
      specification when running on Linux. Excellent news, I hope this gets
      integrated soon.
    </p>
    <p>
      Speaking of which, now that more applications are using this
      property, I should get around to extending the Screen Resolution setting
      in GNOME to include a colour profile selector...

      Today is the GUADEC 2007 Call for Papers deadline, and submissions are
      still coming in fast and furious. However a few people who would submit a
      paper cannot do so today due to existing commitments, and as I'm an
      exceedingly generous individual the deadline is now extended until
      <strong>Thursday 15th March</strong>.  That's the day after the
      GNOME 2.18 release, so if you want to submit a proposal and have a GNOME
      Release Party then remember to <a
      href="http://guadec.org/callforpapers">submit</a> <em>then</em> party.
    </p>

    <p>
      We also need more <strong>Lightning Talks</strong>. A Lightning Talk is
      simply a five minute presentation, so typically in an hour slot there will
      be ten or so talks on different topics. They are easy to present (being
      so short) and fun to watch (as there is a wide range of topics covered).
      They are a great way to announce a new project, demo something very cool
      (IIRC, David Reveman got a standing ovation when he demod Compiz in
      Stuttgart), or give a progress report. <a
      href="http://guadec.org/callforpapers">Submit your lightning talk
      today!</a>

      The GUADEC 2007 paper submission deadline is rapidly approaching: five days
      left and counting! That's right, if you want to talk at GUADEC this year
      in Birmingham, England, then you have until <strong>Monday
        12th March</strong> to submit your proposal.
    </p>
    <p>
      We need talks about desktop integration, embedded systems, large
      deployments, and profiling. We need tutorials on using GNOME from Python,
      or Perl, or C#. Sessions explaining how to use a certain application, or
      why a new library being developed is the best thing since sliced bread.
      Scheduled hackfests to fix bugs in certain applications, and discussions
      to work out complicated problems we have.
    </p>
    <p>
      Basically, <strong>we need you</strong>. Propose your session for GUADEC
      now!

      This may sound a little strange but does anyone have
      <tt>linux-image-2.6.20-6-generic</tt> and the matching restricted modules
      packages for Ubuntu Feisty? They've fallen out of the Ubuntu archive, the
      morgue doesn't exist any more, and newer kernels don't work with
      Scratchbox.  Thanks!

      Thanks to Andrew Kerr who mailed me an initial packaging, although I think I did end up rewriting about 80% of it.
